Former governor of Anambra state and presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP) Mr Gregory Peter Obi expressed his thoughts on building a true democratic nation during International Democracy Day.

“We must remind ourselves of the need to work together to build and deepen our nation’s democracy” Mr. Peter Obi told the citizens that the ideas and tenets on which Nigeria’s democracy was built if not checked will push the nation into lawlessness.

The former governor laments endemic corruption that swings dangerously to the higher authorities, from executive, legislative and arms of government and the need to stop abuse of the constitution, disrespect of the rule of law, and transactional politics.

Obi added that Nigeria is currently swinging away from the boundaries of true democracy, losing the biggest intangible assets that make a nation strong and also calling the Nigerians to reinforce the nation’s democracy.

The former presidential candidate talked about his vision to offer Nigerians good leadership that will be beneficial to every Nigerian.

My vision of a New and truly democratic Nigeria is borne out of the deep conviction that Nigeria if given good leadership as I offer to give, will be beneficial to every Nigerian. We must not give up on our nation because a New and Truly Democratic Nigeria is possible. Obi added

Peter Obi is well known for his fiscal discipline and development initiatives. He is also involved in philanthropy and has been a prominent advocate for good governance and economic reforms in Nigeria.
