His Holiness Pope Francis has condemned the ongoing war between Israel and Palestine. He urged both sides to honour humanitarian laws, particularly in the region of Gaza.
He stated that conflicts worldwide, including those in Ukraine and Israel, must cease, as there is no true victory for any nation in war.
Pope added, “Humanitarian law is to be respected, especially in Gaza. Please, let no more innocent blood be shed, neither in the Holy Land nor in Ukraine, nor in any other place! Enough! Wars are always a defeat, always!”
He noted his deep empathy for the suffering and anguish resulting from the Israel and Palestine conflict. urging that both sides should prioritize the release of hostages, particularly the vulnerable, such as the sick, children, and women.
In addition, Pope Francis issued a stern warning to both nations, urging them to refrain from using innocent civilians as pawns in the conflict.
He stated, “I continue to follow with great sorrow what is happening in Israel and Palestine. I renew my appeal for the freeing of the hostages and I strongly ask that children, the sick, the elderly, women, and all civilians not be made victims of the conflict”.
The ongoing conflict in Israel has resulted in the loss of thousands of lives and substantial property damage, leading to the displacement of a significant number of civilians from their homes. The international community has joined in, with Pope Francis stating that both nations should cease hostilities and seek a peaceful resolution.
