The Abia State Governorship Election Tribunal Commences Hearing on PDP and APC Petitions

The Abia State Governorship election tribunal has begun proceedings on the petitions submitted by the PDP and APC parties. The tribunal is conducting its hearings at the Federal High Court in Umuahia, with a significant security presence.

Chief Okey Ahiwe, the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), and Chief Ikechi Emenike, the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), have filed a petition seeking to annul the victory of the Labour Party and Governor Alex Otti.

It’s worth recalling that on May 18, a gubernatorial election took place in Abia State, featuring prominent political parties such as APC and PDP, alongside several minority parties.

Following the election, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) declared Alex Otti as the governor-elect of Abia State. However, opposition parties have steadfastly contested his victory in court, arguing that he is not the rightful winner.

Nigerians are anxiously awaiting the final rulings of the Tribunal, scheduled to be delivered at the Umuahia Federal High Court on October 6, 2023.”
