The Enugu Governorship Election Petition Tribunal, led by Justice Kudirat Murayo Akano, exonerated Governor Peter Mba from all allegations on Thursday. Following the March 18 gubernatorial election, in which the People’s Democratic Party emerged victorious, the People’s Redemption Party (PRP) candidate, Chris Agu, had petitioned the tribunal, alleging that Peter Mba had forged his National Youth Service Corps certificate, seeking his disqualification on grounds of corruption and forgery.
The tribunal dismissed Agu’s petition, citing his failure to substantiate the claim that the respondent lacked the minimum qualifications for election and the absence of supporting evidence.
Furthermore, the tribunal rejected the Labour Party’s accusation of electoral misconduct and BVAS (Biometric Voter Accreditation System) bypass. The tribunal determined that there was insufficient credible evidence to support the Labour Party’s allegations, resulting in the validation of Peter Mba’s victory.
